Description: Get armed to improve and refine your restorative nursing program! You will receive the instruction "take home" tools and resources to
rejuvenate your restorative nursing program .
Purpose:
- Assist participants to identify the:
- principles and practices of restorative nursing
- structure needed to implement a comprehensive restorative program that includes urinary incontinent management and restorative dining
- impact that the delivery of restorative programming has on resident quality of life, staff morale, clinical reimbursement and survey compliance
- Provide participants with tools, resources, ideas, tips & strategies to take back to their facility to make improvements in their restorative nursing programs
Instructor: BJ Collard, RN, BSN, CPHQ, RAC-C is president & founder of CTS, Inc, a Denver based nurse consultation & education
firm. BJ is the nationally recognized expert on Restorative Nursing based on her work through a grant awarded her from the Federal Administration on Aging to develop a
model for delivery of restorative nursing services in long term care. Her Restorative Nursing Manual & workshops have become the premier resource to learn how to
implement successful facility programs. BJ is an expert in CMS regulation compliance, quality improvement, MDS/RAI process, nursing systems & management.
BJ practiced as a certified geriatric nurse practitioner in a physician’s group practice for 7 years and helped develop the prototype for physician and nurse practitioner
collaboration on delivery of health care to nursing home residents. BJ brings strong clinical expertise to her teaching. BJ offers a 5-day DON training program for CTS,
corporations & organizations. She contracts with corporations for restorative nursing program analysis and improvement plan development. This expert knows what does &
does not work.
Objectives:
- Define restorative nursing and restorative nursing programs.
- Identify qualifying criteria for PPS RUGS III payment & coding for MDS 3.0
- List the basic structure components that contribute to an organized, successful restorative program and meets CMS and PPS/Rugs III requirements.
- Use a case study to identify, implement, care plan, document, evaluate and modify a program.
- List some interventions to manage urinary incontinence.
- Name the purpose, admission and discharge criteria of a restorative dining program.
Content:
- Overview Restorative Nursing principles & practices, CMS Regulations, MDS3.0, new survey process & PPS
- Basic structure and process components for successful delivery of restorative nursing care and services
- Identifying, implementing, care planning, documenting, evaluating, and modifying restorative programs
- Urinary incontinence and catheter use, regulation requirements & process steps
- Restorative Dining, admission & discharge criteria, purpose & process steps
Target Audience: DONS, Charge Nurses, Unit Managers, Restorative Nurse Coordinators, MDS Coordinators, Therapists, RNS, LPNS, RCNAS*
*Evaluations show RCNAS enjoy & benefit by the class. DONS are encouraged to review the objectives and brochure content to decide if this workshop is applicable to RCNAS.
